You CAN Jam Series

We’re excited to share a new initiative focused on promoting and preserving traditional jamming at the North-East Ohio Hammered Dulcimer Weekend. Whether or not you’re already drawn to the styles of jam tunes—jigs, reels, slides, hornpipes, and waltzes—they remain a vital part of the dulcimer’s heritage. These short, lively tunes not only carry the tradition forward but are also one of the most effective (and fun!) ways to sharpen your playing skills.

Whether you can join us at NEO or not, this workshop series will help you learn the core set of dulcimer jam tunes, so when it comes time to join the jam, you’ll feel comfortable, confident, and ready to play along!

What can I expect?

Each week Tina and/or Mark will lead you through a few tunes, showing you HOW to play them, recommended hammer patterns, and strategies to become fluent with them over time. So while some may be up to speed with a new tune in a few days, most will not; however, they will have the instruction, review view, sheet music, time, and ability to get there! We approach learning jam tunes with a growth mindset: you absolutely CAN jam and we plan to equip you to get there!
